Holden is a small town in Penobscot County, just southeast of Bangor and Brewer on the road toward Ellsworth and the coast. It is largely rural and residential, with wooded home sites, ponds and lakes. The Fields Pond Audubon Center offers trails and nature programs, and Brewer Lake and several smaller ponds are popular for fishing and boating. Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are within an hour’s drive.
Holden’s housing includes older farmhouses, newer homes on wooded lots and lake camps, many with basements, attached garages and detached workshops.
Holden’s winters run long, with deep snow, icy roads and plenty of salt and sand. That grit and brine end up on garage and workshop floors, and repeated freeze–thaw cycles break down bare concrete. Glacial soils can heave with frost and crack slabs, and older farmhouse basements are often damp. Then mud season arrives and keeps floors wet for weeks. A floor that’s been ground, repaired and moisture-tested, then sealed with a salt-resistant system, handles all of it far better than bare concrete.
