Fayetteville is a village east of Syracuse that sits mostly in the Town of Manlius, with a small piece in DeWitt. Grover Cleveland spent part of his boyhood here, and the village center along Limestone Creek still has historic homes, churches and shops. Green Lakes State Park, with its strikingly blue-green glacial lakes, old-growth forest and golf course, lies just outside the village, and the old Erie Canal corridor runs nearby.
Fayetteville shares in Syracuse’s well-known snowfall, with lake-effect bands, long cold spells and many freeze–thaw cycles from late fall to early spring. De-icing salt is everywhere, so garage floors and the concrete just outside the garage door take the most abuse. The area’s limestone geology and clay soils can hold water against foundations, and many of the village’s older homes have damp basements. Newer homes in surrounding subdivisions have attached two- and three-car garages that see daily traffic.
