Oklahoma blends Great Plains openness with surprising variety. The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge near Lawton is home to free-roaming bison and longhorn cattle, the Ouachita Mountains and Talimena Scenic Drive cover the southeast, and Beavers Bend State Park sits along the clear Mountain Fork River. Lake Texoma, Grand Lake and Lake Eufaula are some of the largest reservoirs in the region. In the cities, Oklahoma City has Bricktown and the Oklahoma City National Memorial, while Tulsa is known for its Art Deco downtown, the Gathering Place park along the Arkansas River and the historic Greenwood District.
Western Oklahoma and the Panhandle are drier and windier, with high plains, wheat fields and red soils. Central Oklahoma around the capital is a transition zone, and the east, from Tulsa through Green Country into the Ouachitas, gets more rain and more trees. Across the state, weather is the headline. Oklahoma sits in the heart of Tornado Alley, and spring brings hail, high winds and intense thunderstorms. Summers are hot, with strong sun and stretches of drought, and winter can swing from mild afternoons to ice storms in a matter of days.
All of that is hard on concrete. Much of the state has expansive clay soils that swell when wet and shrink during drought, which can heave and crack slabs and driveways. Ice storms and freezing rain bring freeze–thaw damage and the de-icers that come with it. Intense summer UV fades and breaks down cheaper coatings. A good Oklahoma coating plan starts with proper crack repair and surface preparation, then uses a UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat for exterior or sunlit areas and an anti-slip aggregate where ice, rain or pool water are part of the picture. Many homeowners also use their garages as storm shelters or have in-garage safe rooms installed, so a clean, sealed floor around that space is a practical upgrade.
Most homes in Oklahoma are built on slabs, and basements are uncommon. Suburbs around Oklahoma City and Tulsa, such as Edmond, Norman, Moore, Yukon, Broken Arrow, Owasso and Bixby, are full of newer homes with attached garages that become workshops, gyms and hangout spaces. Outdoor patios, pool decks and porches get heavy use during the long warm season.
Rural Oklahoma is ranch and farm country, and metal shops, barns and equipment buildings are everywhere. Oil and gas operations, aerospace work around Tinker Air Force Base and Tulsa, and a growing number of warehouses and manufacturing plants all need floors that hold up to heavy equipment, fluids and chemicals.
The largest markets are the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas, followed by Norman, Lawton, Broken Arrow and Edmond, with contractors also serving towns across the state.
