Beaver is the county seat of Beaver County in southwestern Utah and the birthplace of the outlaw Butch Cassidy. Its historic district is full of pioneer-era homes built from local black volcanic rock and pink tuff, and the old Beaver County Courthouse is a landmark. The Tushar Mountains rise to the east, with Eagle Point ski resort and the Fishlake National Forest, and Minersville Reservoir is a short drive west.
Beaver sits at a high elevation, so winters are cold and snowy, with many nights well below freezing and frequent freeze–thaw cycles during spring and fall. Snowmelt and road de-icers damage bare garage concrete over time, causing scaling and pitting. Summers are sunny and dry with intense UV, so outdoor coatings and open-garage floors need UV-stable topcoats. Soils in the valley vary from rocky to clay-rich, which can lead to slab cracking.
Historic homes in Beaver often have older basements or cellars with uneven floors and moisture concerns, and a contractor will need to test and prepare those slabs carefully. On ranches and farms, chemical-resistant floors make equipment barns and shops easier to clean.
Fast-curing polyaspartic systems are useful in this climate, since they can be installed in cooler conditions and returned to service quickly.
