Forest is a fast-growing unincorporated community in Bedford County, just west of Lynchburg. It takes its name from Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest, the octagonal retreat he designed and visited for years, which is now a museum and ongoing restoration project. The Peaks of Otter and the Blue Ridge Parkway rise to the west, Smith Mountain Lake is a short drive south, and the area’s neighborhoods, shopping centers and schools have grown quickly in recent decades.
The central Virginia Piedmont’s red clay soils expand and contract, often cracking garage floors and driveways. Summers are hot and humid, and winters bring ice storms, occasional snow and repeated freeze–thaw cycles, along with road salt. Newer subdivisions often have large attached garages and basements, while older homes and farms have slabs that are ready for repair.
New concrete needs to cure fully before most coatings can go down, so if your home is recently built, ask how long the installer recommends waiting and whether they test moisture levels. Compare the listing on this page with Lynchburg-area contractors, then request quotes from a few.
