Keyser is the seat of Mineral County, in West Virginia’s Potomac Highlands, on the North Branch of the Potomac River across from Maryland. It is home to Potomac State College of West Virginia University, and the city’s historic downtown and hillside neighborhoods reflect its railroad heritage. Jennings Randolph Lake, a large reservoir on the North Branch, is a short drive south, offering boating, fishing and whitewater releases, and Cumberland, Maryland, is just up the river.
Keyser’s valley location means cold winters with snow, ice and frequent freeze–thaw cycles, and road salt and cinders are used heavily on the mountain roads. Steep terrain sends runoff toward foundations, and homes near the river can have a high water table. Many older homes have basements and garages with aging concrete.
Polyaspartic topcoats resist salt and can be applied in cooler temperatures than traditional epoxy. Contractors serving Cumberland and the Potomac Highlands may also cover Keyser. Review the companies listed on this page, ask about their approach to damp basements, and request quotes.
