Riverview is a large unincorporated community in southeastern Hillsborough County, named for the Alafia River that winds through its northern edge on the way to Tampa Bay. What was once a quiet stretch of farms and fish camps has become one of the fastest-growing suburbs in the Tampa area, with new subdivisions, schools and shopping centers filling the land between Brandon, Gibsonton and Apollo Beach. Residents paddle and fish the Alafia, head to Alafia River State Park in nearby Lithia for mountain biking, and reach downtown Tampa in about half an hour.
The riverside lowlands and the many ponds and wetlands across Riverview keep groundwater close to the surface, especially during the summer rainy season. Afternoon thunderstorms are nearly daily from June through September, humidity rarely lets up, and hurricanes can bring flooding to areas near the river. Because so many homes are recently built, slabs may still be releasing moisture when owners want them coated. A careful installer will test, grind to the right profile and use a moisture-tolerant primer when readings call for it.
HOAs in many Riverview communities have rules about visible exterior finishes, so check yours before choosing a color for a driveway or walkway. Inside the garage, the choice is yours, and flake blends that hide dust and tire marks are a popular pick.
