Endicott is a village in the Town of Union in Broome County, along the Susquehanna River in New York’s Southern Tier. It is famous as the birthplace of IBM and as the home of the Endicott Johnson shoe company, which built much of the community’s housing and donated several of the area’s historic carousels, including those at En-Joie Park and West Endicott Park. Washington Avenue’s storefronts and the En-Joie Golf Club are local landmarks.
The Susquehanna valley gets cold, snowy winters with many freeze–thaw cycles and humid, often rainy summers. Endicott and nearby communities have also dealt with serious river flooding in past decades. Much of the housing stock is older, with full basements and detached garages that show wear from years of salt and moisture. Coating systems that resist water and chlorides, combined with good surface preparation, help concrete last in this setting. In flood-prone parts of the valley, a seamless coated floor is also much easier to clean out and dry than bare, porous concrete.
